Anatomy Of A Built-In

Every detail is a decision

This mudroom locker is a good example of what finish carpentry actually involves. Each part is planned, cut, and fit to the room, not pulled off a shelf.

Custom mudroom locker built-in with shaped top openings, shelves, beadboard backs, a bench, and boot cubbies in a Cache Valley home
  1. Crown at the ceiling

Crown molding ties the built-in to the room so it reads as part of the house, not furniture pushed against a wall.

  2. Shaped top openings

Clipped corners on each opening, cut to match across all three bays.

  3. Upper shelves

Spaced for hats, gloves, and the bins that hold everything else.

  4. Beadboard backs

Vertical beadboard panels that hold up to wet coats and look right in a mudroom.

  5. Bench seat

Set at sitting height and built solid enough to pull boots on every day.

  6. Boot cubbies

Open cubbies under the bench so snowy boots have somewhere to go.

Older Homes

Matching what's already there

Many homes around downtown Logan and on the Island have original trim worth keeping, and walls and floors that are far from square. We match existing profiles where we can, scribe new trim to wavy walls and ceilings, and make repairs blend in instead of standing out.

Newer Homes

Past builder-grade trim

Newer Logan homes often come with the thinnest base and casing a builder could get away with. Taller baseboard, wider casing, crown, and a wainscoted wall or two change how a room feels more than almost anything else for the money.

Winter Ready

Mudrooms that earn their keep

Cache Valley winters mean snow boots, ski gear, and wet coats coming through the door for months. A mudroom built-in with a bench, hooks, cubbies, and durable backs gives all of it a home.

Near Campus

Basement apartments and kitchenettes

Plenty of homes near USU have a basement apartment. We install the cabinets, doors, and trim that make one feel finished, and our crew is happy to do painting the trim and doors once it's all in.

Good Questions

Finish carpentry questions

How much does finish carpentry cost in Logan?
It depends on the scope: how many rooms, the trim profiles and materials you choose, and whether we're adding built-ins, doors, or a mantel. Replacing baseboard in one room is a very different job from new crown, casing, and built-ins through a whole house. We look at the space and give you a clear, itemized estimate.
Can you match the existing trim in my older home?
In most cases, yes. Many older Logan homes have trim profiles you can't buy off the shelf anymore. We match what's there as closely as possible, or help you choose a new profile and carry it through so the whole house reads as one.
Do you build custom built-ins?
Yes. Shelving, bookcases, entertainment walls, window seats, and mudroom lockers are some of our favorite work. Each one is designed and fit to your space, then installed and trimmed out by our crew so it looks like it was always part of the house.
Do you install crown molding and baseboards on their own?
Absolutely. You don't need a full remodel to bring us in. Plenty of our projects are new baseboard, crown molding, or casing for a room or two.
Can you hang new interior doors?
Yes. We install interior doors, case them, and set the hardware so they swing freely and latch cleanly. Swapping old hollow-core doors for solid doors is one of the most noticeable upgrades you can make.
Who will I be working with?
Ryan and Tyler. You work directly with us from the first walkthrough to the final punch list, so you always know who's responsible for your project and what's happening next.
Do you handle small projects and whole-house trim?
Both. Whether it's a single door, a mantel, or new trim throughout your home, we scale the project to what you need.
